Revised 20 March 2007
Thursday Night Racing
The Southern Maryland Sailing Association (SMSA) holds small boat racing every Thursday evening during the summer.
The races are held in the Patuxent River, normally right off the boardwalk in Solomons.
Races will be held off the Solomons Island boardwalk. Marks will be set close to shore so we can promote the sport of sailing and introduce people to SMSA.
Short starting cycles and short courses will be used to cram in as many races as possible before dusk. The Portsmouth Yardstick handicapping but no fancy awards,
just a good time and an excuse to exploit an excellent sailing venue!
Racing begins promptly at 6:30pm. The number and order of classes/starts will be determined and announced
each week, based on the on-water attendance. Separate standings will be provided for each class/start.
These entry fees are used in their entirety to pay for race committee and crash boat fuel;
the Thursday night races are a non-profit program.
- $60 for SMSA members
- $150 for non-members
The races held on Thursday nights will be sailed under the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) 2005-2008 and the
SMSA Small Boat Program Sailing Instructions.
Join us for a post-race social at the SMSA Clubhouse for the
evening's results & a bite to eat. Will recap the night's events with
competitors & friends. Beverages and light fare will be available
(with a request for an equitable donation).
Come join US and have some FUN.
