SMSA Library

Library page supported by Rob and Sue Sloan

February 2, 2002

We've received a large number of books recently as well as a number of back issues of Practical Sailor. Please browse our updated alphabetical lists of the Titles and Authors of materials available in the SMSA Clubhouse Library.  In addition we have a set of Reference Materials purchased by SMSA (titles of interest to cruisers and, from USSA, racers), and a video collection, which includes the complete run of the six volumes (24 videos) of Sailing Quarterly. We have not purchased a subscription to Practical Sailor, since some members have their own subscriptions, and the logistics of receiving the subscription and making issues available are problematic.  However, Paul Grisso and Rob and Sue Sloan have been subscribers and are willing to share back issues with the membership.

The "catalog" is currently available along with the books in the office of the clubhouse.  If you have materials you would like to donate to the library, you may leave them at the clubhouse office, or you may drop them by Bay Books in Wildewood, attention of Sue Sloan.  If you want to donate audiotapes or videotapes, please be sure they meet copyright requirements.  Please note that we are NOT interested in adding the more common magazines to the library, such as SAIL, Cruising World, and the like, as these publications are widely available. If you would like to bring back issues to be given away for others to use, there is a bookshelf outside the office that can be used for that purpose.

Member Libraries

We have now extablished a second part of this project - providing a page link to access lists of library materials that are owned by members who wish to retain them in their own possession but who would be willing to lend them on an individual basis to another club member.   If you have such items, you can contact me by e-mail (rsloan@erols.com), send the information to me by mail, or call me. In the last instance, be aware that we use our answering machine extensively, even if we are home, so please respond to the offer to leave a message. The information required for each item includes the author(s) (or editor, or publisher if it is from a group like USSA), the title, and a date of publication and/or edition number.

For suggestions or comments, please contact me or Sue.
