At home, understanding weather means how to set your heat pump thermostat. On a boat, however, you are out in the weather. We like to be out there in the elements, but in extended cruising you need to understand what is happening with the fronts passing, the effect on tides and currents. You need to forecast the same.
The veneer of TV weather, although better now, is not enough. NOAH VHF weather is often not enough. Read the books or take a course (like the course being offered by SMSA on 1 March 2008.
